Be part of the First World Naked Bike Ride in New Orleans! This event is a fun peaceful event held in many major cities, where everyone lets loose and has a good time.

The mission of the ride is to peacefully expose the vulnerability of cyclists, humanity and nature in the face of cars, aggression, consumerism and non-renewable energy. Every June 13, 2009 of every year, in 70 cities from 30 countries around the world, people will be riding naked to celebrate cycling and the human body. The ride demonstrates the vulnerability of cyclists on the road and is a protest against oil dependency. This will be the first annual World Naked Bike Ride held in New Orleans. Be there, as bare as you dare!

The route for the first annual World Naked Bike Ride will be short, Starting at Washington Square Park on Elysian Fields Ave. and Royal St. At noon on June 13, 2009, we will leave the park and proceed down Royal St. toward Canal St. We will follow Royal through the French Quarter until we reach Bienville St and turn right. One block over we will turn right again onto Bourbon Street back to Washington Square Park.

I just received this via email:
Hello everyone,

One week left before the ride and everything seems to be in place. We have a permit to ride and for those of you that are nervous about on watchers making remarks we have a police escort. That's right they will block all the intersections as we roll by and prevent confrontation. The officer that handles events in the French Quarter was very cooperative and pleasant. His OFFICIAL word is that nipples and genitals must be covered. Body paint on nipples would be considered covered. You should bring some type of covering just in case and sunscreen. That said, this is a "As Bare as You Dare" ride. I think that if we are peaceful, non aggressive and respectful we should not have any problems.

Everyone should bring their own refreshments for the after party. If you have friends that do not want to ride then convince them to come to be caretakers of our left belongings at the park.

I have purchased the permit, but cannot take on the cost of paying the Officers for the escort. Remember they will be there for our safety and protection. There will four policemen, two on bikes, that will need to paid at the end of the ride.. So if you have someplace on your body to carry $5.00 or so that would be most helpful. Next year we will push for Sponsors.

This ride belongs to the people, so in order to make it a success bring riders with you. Be creative. Make signs, paint slogans, paint yourself, paint your bike, paint a friend. Here are a few examples:

Notice me when I'm not naked
Less gas more ass
1 less car
We are traffic
Now can you see me?

It's a shame I have to even write this, but lewd behavior (touching oneself or others) or off color remarks to other riders will not be tolerated. Anyone not acting in the spirit of the ride will be removed.

This is New Orleans and we should be setting the example on having fun for the World Naked Bike Ride.

Thank you and I'll see you Saturday,
